SCA students

It's... weird. I don't have any students at this point. Granted, I've chosen kinda poorly (okay, Lisette was and is awesome but I let her go). Out of my first three protégés, two quit the SCA, and one I handled badly (see: Lisette/ Lux, who is doing great with her new peer). My protege of the late 20teens ended up a disaster, she completely betrayed my trust and I showed her the door. And then my last protege/ apprentice was also a disaster when she bailed on our friendship, and good riddance. I just seem to have bad luck with students. Maybe I'm not meant to have any.

I haven't had great luck with it either. I have one that would be great if I hadn't moved away, one that fizzled out, and nobody up here in An Tir has any interest in late period clothing (or maybe just me, lol) so it seems like that's it for me. :-\

There is no law that says you have to. I teach whoever is interested at the time they're interested for the amount they're interested - and that could be a single question in an online forum or FB group.

I know there's no requirement (thank gawd) and I think it's good for me to sit down and think about what I would really want from a student, past experiences being what they are. I think I've tried to make "family" for myself by taking on students and that hasn't been the right reason.

I understand. It's complicated. It's a bit like dating; just because there are single people out other, it doesn't mean they are a good match for you. Maybe it's not that you have bad luck with students, maybe it's that you are a romantic.

That's a good comparison. I'm definitely too romantic, I love too quickly and too hard and then I get let down. It's a work in progress.
